Lagos Seals Purple Mall After Fatal Parking Lot Collapse

Following the tragic incident at the Purple Mall parking lot in Lekki on Wednesday, which resulted in the death of a young Nigerian, the Lagos State Ministry of the Environment and Water Resources has shut down the mall indefinitely. A dedicated investigation team has also been established.
In a statement signed by the Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, it was revealed that the team will investigate the underlying cause of the parking lot collapse.
The team will also evaluate adherence to building safety regulations and identify any environmental or structural violations.
Wahab stated, “This devastating accident could have been avoided. We are committed to ensuring full accountability and putting in place all necessary measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.”
He extended his sincere condolences to the victim’s family and emphasized, “Lagos residents deserve safe public spaces, and we will not compromise on this.”
The Commissioner assured the public that updates will be shared as the investigation unfolds.
