The Unique Lagos Food Festival plans to offer subsidised agro-produce to residents and connecting farmers directly with consumers and industry stakeholders.
Mrs. Bridget Okonofua, the convener of the festival, revealed the plan in an interview yesterday Tuesday, 13th may, ahead of the three-day event scheduled for May 22 to 24, 2025 at Ikeja, Lagos.
Over 200 vendors are expected to participate, offering Lagosians the opportunity to purchase food items at significantly discounted rates.
She explained that the Lagos State Ministry of Agriculture and Food Systems has endorsed the event, recognising it as a platform to support Farmers and consumers amid Nigeria’s rising food inflation.
“We understand the challenges our farmers face. At the same time, consumers are struggling under high food prices. This initiative benefits both ends of the value chain,” she added.
Okonofua confirmed that vendors at the festival will offer discounts on agro-produce, making food more affordable for residents.
“We want to empower not just consumers, but those working across the value chain from out-growers to large-scale processors. This is a platform for growth, exposure, and collaboration,” she said.
The Food Festival aims to be a solution hub for farmers dealing with unsold stock and post-harvest waste, offering them a ready market and connections to bulk buyers and processors.
