Court Remands 18-Year-Old Suspect Over Alleged Rape

A suspect identified in court as Nwude Joseph has been held for trial over alleged rape on a teenager.
Standing at Prosecutor at the Ikorodu Magistrates’ Court, ASP Aminu Isaac said that Joseph is standing trial on a count charge of defilement.
The accused pleaded not guilty.
Nevertheless, Isaac told the court that the suspect committed the offence on January 17 at Gibson Lesson Centre Owutu in Agric area, Ikorodu.
The Prosecutor also submitted that the suspect defiled the victim by having unlawful canal knowledge of her without her consent.
Isaac stated that the offences contravene the provisions of Section 137 and 135(1) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
According to reports, Section 137 stipulates life imprisonment for an offender.
The Magistrate, Bola Sonuga, remanded the defendant in a correctional centre pending legal advice from the Lagos State Director of Public Prosecutions, DPP.
The case was adjourned till April 10.
