LASTMA Reveals Numbers of Accidents Victims In 2024

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has disclosed that it responded to 2,051 road accidents involving 3,754 vehicles over the past twelve months.

 

LASTMA General Manager Olalekan Bakare-Oki provided a breakdown of the accidents, revealing that 143 were classified as fatal, 502 as severe, and 1,406 as minor.

 

Throughout this period, LASTMA successfully rescued 1,075 individuals from various accidents across Lagos State.

 

In addition to addressing road accidents, LASTMA demonstrated its operational proficiency by resolving 5,108 cases of vehicular breakdowns. The breakdown cases included 423 cars, 746 buses, 219 SUVs, 1,649 trucks, 400 tankers, 535 trailers, and 1,118 other vehicles.

 

Bakare-Oki emphasized the importance of LASTMA’s swift intervention, explaining that it provided timely assistance to stranded motorists and effectively prevented potential traffic congestion and additional accidents.

 

LASTMA’s commitment to serving the public was further showcased by its Physical Complaint Centre (PCC), which documented 2,056 physical complaints from Lagos residents. Among these, 1,968 cases were effectively addressed, while 88 were referred for further resolution.

 

 

The General Manager described this as a milestone for the authority, noting that it was a testament to the Agency role in preventing road mishaps, curbing fatalities, preserving lives and optimising traffic control in the state.
