Woman Faces Prosecution Over Alleged N6.8 Million Theft

One Blessing Okoro is facing trial for allegely stealing the sum of N6,800,000 from his employer in Lagos.

At the Ikeja Magistrates’Court, the 32-year-old was accused of stealing the money from her employer, Obinna Ifejika – the complainant, while working as his personal assistant. The alleged theft occurred between January and October 2023.

The accused pleaded not guilty to a one-count charge of stealing preferred against her. The charge reads: “That you, Blessing Okoro, between the months of January and October 2023, at No. 10, Opebi Road, Ikeja, Lagos, in the Ikeja Magisterial District, did steal the sum of N6,800,000 property of one Obinna Ifejika, and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.”

Presiding over the case, Magistrate Patrick Nwaka, granted the defendant bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum. The sureties, must be gainfully employed and show evidence of tax payment to the Lagos State Government.

The case was adjourned till January 23, 2025.
