The police in Lagos have arraigned one Abiodun Thomas in court over over theft of food provisions valued at N1,300,000.
At the Ikorodu Magistrates’ Court where Thomas was arraigned, Police Prosecutor, ASP, Christian Okonofua, that the suspect is facing charges of theft and conversion.
Okonofua also held that the suspect, 28, committed the offences at no 24, Agbele Grammar School, Oke-Ona, Ikorodu; sometime in September.
“He [the accused] stole 132 cartons of Fast-Moving Consumer Goods which include packaged foods, beverages, toiletries, cosmetics, cleaning supplies, and other low-cost household items – all properties of one Francis Igbokwe,” said the Prosecutor.
“Having commited the act, he converted the proceeds to his personal use.
“This contravenes the provisions of Sections 280 and punishable under section 287(7) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State.”
The defendant pleaded guilty.
The court remanded Thomas in a correctional centre and adjourned the matter till January 16, 2025 for facts and sentencing.
