LASG Trains, Empowers Youths On Apiculture

To ensure the productive engagement of the youths and broaden their knowledge about alternative sources of income and wealth creation without resorting to criminality, the Lagos State Government, through the Centre for Rural Development (CERUD), has trained and empowered 50 youths from Epe rural division of the state on Honeybee production and management (Apiculture).

 

Addressing participants at a one-day training, the Director/CEO of CERUD, Mr. Musibau Muyiwa Balogun pointed out the limitless opportunities that are available in the production of honey for commercial purposes and affirmed the availability of a ready market for the product.

 

Elaborating on the love and commitment of Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu to the welfare and the upliftment of the socioeconomic life of the youths, Balogun charged the participants to make good use of the empowerment materials given to them to justify the government’s investment in them and to create a better living for themselves.

 

While thanking Governor Sanwo-Olu for his sustained engagements and interventions in the affairs of the youths and farmers in the State, the Chairman, All Farmers Association of Nigeria (AFAN), Lagos State chapter, Dr. Femi Oke also advised the participants to explore creative ways of making their products excel in the market, reiterating the huge market potentials for honey, both locally and internationally.

Responding, Mrs. Titi Adeaga, one of the participants, thanked CERUD and the Lagos State Government for the opportunity, promising to expand the frontiers of the knowledge acquired at the training to enhance her income earning capacity.

 

The participants were supplied with a metal stand, wooden beehive, smoker, protective bee clothing, face veil and a pair of boots each.
