Lagos Prepares to Celebrate “The Return 1862”

“The Return 1862.” This week-long celebration, scheduled from September 8th to 16th, 2024, marks the historic return of King Kosoko to Lagos from Epe in 1862, an event that profoundly shaped the course of Lagos’ history.

The week-long ceremony promises to be a vivid journey through time, featuring a series of events that will bring the history and traditions of Lagos to life. Among the key events are:

Press Briefing: The formal unveiling of the week’s activities at the historic King Kosoko Palace

 

King Kosoko Memorial Lecture: A scholarly discourse coupled with launching a new book and the Kosoko Family Anthem, set for September 8th at Glover Memorial Hall, and lots of Cultural activities.

Inter-Denominational Traditional Religion Prayer: A spiritual gathering on September 10th at the King Kosoko Palace, reinforcing Lagos’s deep-rooted cultural and religious diversity.

 

“We have carefully created each event to not only honour our past but to also inspire future generations,” Prince Olojo-Kosoko noted. “The Return 1862 is the only event that brings together the indigenous people of Lagos from all five divisions to one spot, fostering unity and a shared sense of identity.”

 

He asserted that the Return 1862 is more than a historical commemoration; it is a vibrant celebration of the traditions and customs that define Lagos, adding that it is also an opportunity to promote cultural awareness, tourism, and economic development in the region.

“We have extended invitations to dignitaries from across the country, including traditional rulers, government officials, and cultural enthusiasts, their presence will add to the significance of this event, underscoring the importance of cultural exchange in fostering unity,” Kosoko announced.
