Kasali Launches Campaign Against Truancy
By Mohammed Adekola
The Chairman Lekki LCDA, Engr. Rasaki Bamidele Kasali, through his initiatives, Rights for Bright Kids Initiative (RBK-I), seeks to augment teachers’ efforts by launching a campaign against truancy and school refusal behaviour in the LCDA, beginning with Lekki Secondary School.
While some students are breaking barriers, making headway and topping the charts, expeditious observations reveal that a number of them are not conditioned to tow the noble path in making themselves as well as their community proud. A number of them roam about during school hours while others abscond from school at every slight opportunity.
A full incessant monitoring, evaluation and follow up strategy, has been made a key tactic in curbing the menace and to discourage the culprits from jeopardizing their future, and efforts of their parents and community.
Mr Damilare Shoye (a tourism professional, public speaker and youths advocate), walked down memory lane with the students, as he shared his experience and struggles with truancy as a youth and how he was able to overcome it.
He said “despite many excuses to refuse schooling, he was lucky to have people who did not give up on him. And that his decision to grow up and do the needful, has helped him to become what he is today”.
He encouraged the students to stay true to their studies and that the Chairman of Lekki LCDA, is not giving up on them.
The campaign stems Rights for Bright Kids Initiative (RBK-I), is the 4th step/phase in the actualization of its objectives. An initiative of the Chairman of Lekki LCDA, which has been in motion since January of 2023. It is the Chairman’s hope that more of the students will continue to make the LCDA proud.
