LASU Certificate Racketeering: LSDPP Set To Prosecute Suspects
The Lagos Directorate of Public Prosecution has begun process of prosecuting the suspects in the allegation of certificate racketeering at the Lagos State University,
A source at the department told Echonews on Thursday that the department is working with the police who are responsible to carry out the investigation for onward prosecution.
“We are waiting for necessary papers from the police who have also been briefed to investigate the matter. We have received briefs from the Institution itself ,” the source said.
A report by an online newspapers had revealed alleged “Certificate Racketeering” and a “sting operation” in the University.
The report mentioned one Professor Tajudeen Olumoko, the Dean Students Affairs as one of the racketeers.
Olumoko had since been removed and replaced by Dr. Abiodun Tajudeen Abatan of the Department of Political Science as investigation continues to nail those who were involved in the alleged crime.
Confirming the latest development by LSDPP, the Coordinator, Centre for Information and Public Relations, Mrs. Oluwayemisi Thomas Onashile said that varsity management had promptly brought the original allegations to the attention of general law enforcement authorities including the office of the Lagos State Directorate of Public Prosecutions.
She said that though the authorities had not yet concluded their investigations, LASU management would not take such matters lightly.
“Its own inquiries into the allegations will be concluded before the end of 2023. Consistently with applicable law, the outcome of the inquiry will be published and appropriate action will be taken.
“There has been no “cover up” and there will be no “cover up,” she said.
