Lagos HOS, Muri-Okunola, Extols Civil Servants, Unveils 2023 Public Service Week Agenda

The Lagos State Head of Service (HOS), Mr. Hakeem Muri-Okunola has given kudos to civil servants for their performance in the first term administration of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

He commended the staff as he unveiled activities lined up for the year 2023 Public service week at the public service office in Alausa secretariat area of Lagos on Thursday.

He said that the weeklong celebration holds immense significance to celebrate, recognize and appreciate the invaluable contributions of dedicated Public Servants.

As he put it, “The 23rdJune of every year has been a notable day to celebrate and
appreciate public servants worldwide and Lagos cannot be left out.”

The public service sector plays a vital role in shaping the foundation of our society. It is
through the selfless efforts of we, the Public Servants that the Society has been able to enjoy the manybenefits and services that improve lives and foster a
thriving community. From healthcare to education, from infrastructure to public
safety, from environmental protection to social welfare, it is the tireless work of
Public Servants that keeps our society functioning effectively and efficiently”.

Muri-Okunola noted that the choice of the theme of this year’s celebration which is -‘Transforming our Service, enriching your experience” is to celebrate the commitment,
professionalism, and dedication demonstrated by Public Servants.

“Your unwavering determination to serve the public interest and uphold the values of
integrity, transparency, and accountability deserves utmost respect and admiration. We are the driving force behind the development and progress of
the State.

It is important to recognize that public service is not merely a job; it is a calling. Each day, Public Servants face unique challenges and responsibilities that
demand unwavering resilience and adaptability but still strive to provide quality services, often going above and beyond our duty, to ensure the well-being of our citizens.”

While conveying the message of the state Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu to the civil servants, the HOS noted how the new administration had held them in high esteem.

“Mr. Governor and the present
Administration’s appreciate the Lagos State Public Servants for your industry, commitment and unalloyed loyalty to the implementation and achievement of the T.H.E.M.E.S Agenda during this first term.”

However, it is germane to emphasize that the developmental agenda during this second term anchored on “T.H.E.M.E.S+” with the PLUS representing the incorporation of an intensified
focus on Social Inclusion, Gender Equality and Youth in a bid to ensure that “no
one is left behind”.

According to him, Mr. Governor’s commitment to the prioritization of staff matters, including the approval and hosting of the Public Service Week annually, is a recognition of the significant contributions of Public Servants to the numerous achievements of the Government of Lagos State.

“It is therefore, appropriate for all Public Servants to rejig commitments to this new agenda,” he said.

The programme of events read,

i. On Friday 7thJuly 2023, Health Screening for Public Servants on Blood Pressure, Cervical/Breast and Prostate Cancer check between the hours of 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Adeyemi
Bero Auditorium.

On the same day, a Special Jumat Serviceshall hold at the Secretariat Community Central Mosque, Alausa Ikeja at 1:00 p.m.;

ii.On Saturday 8th July 2023, Walk for Fitness of all Public Servants starting at exactly 7:00 a.m. The take-off point, Alausa to Allen Round-About back to Adeyemi Bero Auditorium, Alausa Ikeja;

On Sunday 9thJuly2023, an Inter-Denominational Thanksgiving
Service will hold at the Chapel of Christ the Light, CBD, Alausa at 10:00
a.m. prompt;

iv.Monday 10thJuly 2023 would mark the presentation of gift items to
Orphanages/Charity Organizationsin Lagos State, and they were drawn from the Lagos East, Lagos Central and Lagos West respectively.

From Lagos East we have, Lady Atinuke, Memorial Home(Special Needs)
in Badagry, Special Correctional Centre for Boys, Oregun, from Lagos Central, Ketu Special Children Home, Yaba and Vigilant Heart Charitable Home, Ajah also from Lagos West, Children Correctional Centre for Girls, Idi Araba and K. Olubukola Fowowe Memorial Children Home, Ogba, Lagos.

v.Tuesday 11thJuly 2023, Adeyemi Bero Auditorium Alausa, Ikeja, Lagos,
will host the Annual Long Service Merit Awards Ceremony in recognition and honour of Public Servants who have diligently served the
State for 30-35 years. The event is scheduled to start at 9:00 a.m. prompt;

vi.Wednesday 12th July 2023, shall mark a Special Outing in which Public Servants across the State would have an opportunity to showcase various Talents and other Skills in a programme tagged Alausa’ Got Talent
Series.

V.There would also be a Public Lecture at Adeyemi Bero Auditorium,which shall commence at 10:00 a.m.

vii.The highlight of the Event shall be a Luncheon/Recognition of Outstanding
Officers by Gov. Babajide Sanwo-olu, scheduled to hold on a later date, time
and venue as agreed to by Mr. Governor.

Mr. Muri-Okunola expressed his profound
appreciation to Governor Sanwo-Olu for his dynamic leadership, while commending the Year 2023 Public Service Week Celebration committee for their unrelenting efforts in organizing an event of this magnitude.
