Winners emerge at Ronik School biennial inter-house sports

With 14 Gold, 12 Silver and 11 Bronze medals, the Obafemi Awolowo House finished at the summit, emerging the overall winner at the just concluded inter-house sports organised by Ronik Comprehensive School, Ejigbo.

Azikiwe, named after Dr Nnamdi Azikiwe, ended as runners up with 11 Gold, 10 Silver and 9 Bronze, while Balewa House, which also derived its name from the first republic prime minister of Nigeria, Alhaji Tafawa Balewa, took the third position with 9 Gold, 10 Silver and 9 Bronze. Awolowo House also won the first place in the march past.

The event which was held with different selection of students in groups named after some Nigerian nationalists like Late Obafemi Awolowo, Nnamdi Azikwe and Tafawa Balewa never stopped bringing cheers around the arena with the students showing fantastic sporting artistry which caught the attention of the school Proprietress, Mrs Rachael Alabi who was thrilled with the performance of the students.

Several other schools were invited for Invitation relay race for girls which was won by Top Laurel School, Jakande Estate Ejigbo. The second position was clinched by Excel College, Ejigbo while Gideon Comprehensive School, Okota took the third place.

In the invitation relay race for boys, Top Laurel School also won the first position; Gideon Comprehensive High School took the second position while Excel College emerged third.

Speaking about various the event, the Chairman of the occasion, Alhaji Umoru Audu, said that the sporting event was not only organized for the students to have fun outside the shores of the classroom, but also as a way of helping them physically, developing them mentally and bringing them together.

Audu commended the school management for organizing the event, imploring the parents and guardians to encourage their children to participate in sports as it serves as a way through which the students’ minds can be sharpened to positive thoughts.

He therefore donated the sum of N100,000 to support sports in the school.

In appreciation, the school Proprietress, Mrs. Rachael Alabi, alongside her husband who was also at the event, thanked parents, staff and students for the quality of the performances at the event.

Reacting to Audu’s assertion, the Principal of the school, Mrs. Victoria Duru, also implored the parents to allow their children to participate in sports l activities to build their minds.

Duru, however commended the parents for supporting the school morally and financially by contributing to the achievements of the school in academics and sports.

The parents supported the chairman of the occasion with financial contribution towards sports development in the school.
