Primero awaits LAMATA’s nod on Oshodi-Oyingbo route
Excited by the opportunity of carrying 5,000 new passengers from its station at the Oshodi Transport Interchange through Yaba to Oyingbo, Ikorodu Bus Rapid Transit operator Primero says it is still waiting for the nod of industry regulator Lagos Metropolitan Transport Authority, LAMATA, to commence operations.
Primero launched an awareness advertising campaign in the free weekly community newspaper, Echonews three weeks ago to pep passengers for patronage on the route believing that the approval would be ready within the period.
“ We are still waiting for LAMATA” says Primero boss Fola Tinubu, “ without the approval, we can’t do anything”.
Sources in LAMATA told Echonews that the regulator has no objection to Primero’s application but won’t be able to authorise the operations until the terminals at Yaba and Oyingbo where the buses will dock are completed.
“ Work is going on at both Yaba and Oyingbo terminals. With the rail construction also going on in the same environment, the places are not suitable for the buses to use now.” Our source said.
From all indications, the terminals are not likely to be ready before the end of March. This means Primero won’t be able to put buses on the route until the second quarter, starting April this year.
