Free Food: Ejigbo residents applaud Johnson
By Abolaji Adebayo
The residents of Ejigbo Local Council Development Area (LCDA) were full of excitement as they received parcels of food items distributed by the member of House of Representatives representing Oshodi-Isolo Constituency II, Hon. Ganiyu Johnson, on Sunday, November 3, 2019.
In fulfilment of his campaign promises, Johnson has on Sunday October 27, 2019 inaugurated a monthly free food for his constituency tagged “Ganiyu Abiodun Johnson Food 4 All.”
While distributing packs of varieties of food items such as Semolina, Spaghetti, Noddles, Pond yam, etc in Isolo for the commencement of the programme, Johnson had promised that the distribution of the foods would be done every month and would be alternated between Isolo and Ejigbo, the two LCDAs under his constituency.
Commending the Reps member for the programme, the residents of Ejigbo who benefited from the items said the initiative was one of the best programmes any politician in the constituency would have done.
They said Johnson has identified the immediate need of the people knowing the current situation of the country.
They particularly commended the way the foods were distributed on the streets at various points within the community.
According to them, the distribution really targeted the common people on the streets as nobody was restricted from benefiting from the gifts.
One of the beneficiaries, Mrs. Fatima Adegbola said: “This is a very laudable initiative by Engr. Ganiyu Johnson. There is no discrimination or selection of beneficiaries as everybody in the community and even the passersby are free to take the food items. This is unlike the way some other politicians would just select some of their people, camp them somewhere, give them whatever they want to give and tell the whole world that they give supporting materials to the community.
“With this strategy of distribution, you can see that even people driving in their cars also wait to collect. I love this, may God bless Hon. Ganiyu Johnson more and more.”
A resident, Mrs Bola Ajulo, who could not get a parcel said she was not angry knowing that there were many people justling for the foods.
“I’m not angry at all for not being able to get a parcel. Even if a million parcels are distributed, some people would still not get. But this is a laudable initiative.”
Another beneficiary who identified himself as Mr Chikka commended the initiative as one of the programmes targeted at the poor people in the community.
He however urged Johnson to do more in the area of infrastructure such as palliative intervention on the deplorable roads across the constituency.
Meanwhile, Hon. Ganiyu Johnson’s wife, Mrs. Funke Johnson who spearheaded the programme, said the food items and all other programmes of her husband are not for a particular set of people but for everybody in the constituency irrespective of their political parties, religions, tribes and social status.
She promised that the next distribution in December would be done in Isolo LCDA.
