No fewer than 55 marriages were registered by Chief Joseph Olabintan Marriage Registry, Oshodi in 2020 despite the lockdown buoyed by the outbreak of coronavirus.

The Marriage Registrar, Mrs. Rasheedat Alausa, in a chat with ECHONEWS, said the the number was low due to Covid-19 pandemic as she hopes to have more this year.

She noted that the registry has started recording new marriage contracts this year.

Alausa said the registry tried to comply with the Lagos State guidelines on coronavirus so to curtail its spread as they maintained social distance and minimised the number of relatives to follow couples to the registry.

She commended the Chairman of Oshodi-Isolo Local Government, Hon. Bolaji Muse-Ariyoh for making the registry a befitting place for couples registration ceremony and a conducive atmosphere for the staff.

She however appealed to the Local Government to support the registry with  media publications to advertise the registry for more patronage and wider coverage.

Speaking with ECHONEWS, one of the newly registered couples, Mrs. Rachael Shogbamu, expressed her contentment with the facilities in the registry and the treatment received from the staff, saying the centre is no different from other standard registries in Lagos State.

“I am so happy that I have now become a married woman. I do not reside in Oshodi environment, my sister told me to patronize Oshodi-Isolo Registry and I did not regret it. If I am to rate them, I might not give them five star rating but, they are perfect in their coordination and really appreciate them.”
