A total of 279 goals were scored in the regular season which shows an average of 19.93 goals per match day. Match day seven experienced the highest number of goals scored (27), while week five and 13 recorded the lowest number of goals scored at 15.
In this piece, our correspondence looked at the chances of each of the six teams as they face-off to challenge for the lucrative NWFL Premiership title.
Edo Queens, Rivers Angels, Bayelsa Queens, Nasarawa Amazons, Naija Ratels, and debutants Remo Stars Ladies sealed their places in the NWFL Premiership Super Six playoffs which is scheduled to take place at the Remo Stars Stadium, Ikenne from May 8-17.
Edo Queens
Defending champions, Edo Queens finished the regular season top of group A with 35 points from 14 matches (11 wins, two draws and one loss).
The Benin Arsenal will be banking on their attacking prowess which have been their major strength this season in their quest to defend their title. Scoring 27 goals wasn’t a fluke for Edo Queens whose squad depth will come in handy in Ikenne.
Gaffer, Moses Aduku 4-3-3 dynamic formation gives his attackers the flexibility in marauding across opposing defense and wreck havoc on their opponents. The Benin Arsenal have the most wins (11) and most points at 35 in the regular season as they hope to defend their crown.
Rivers Angels
The Tosan Blankson tutored side have had a fairytale season as they finished second in group B with 32 points (10 wins, two losses and two draws).
The Jewel of Rivers compact midfield have become their major shield in finding balance between their attackers and defense.
Tactician Blankson diamond 4-4-2 formation exposes the technicality of the team in punishing their opponents in any act of complacency.
Rivers Angels will be hoping to end their three years league title drought when they face stiff competition in Ikenne.
Bayelsa Queens
The Prosperity Girls no doubt possesses the most sophisticated squad this season with high profile players.
Head coach, Whyte Ogbonda squad depth and quality players gives the team the room not to rely on any player to get the job done in matches.
Bayelsa Queens finished the regular season unbeaten in 14 matches, a record attained by the club in the first time in their history.
The Prosperity Girls rely more on their experience and fluidity style of play in their 4-3-3 formation. A major advantage to them is the ability to have free kick specialists in the team to convert chances.
Nasarawa Amazons
Nasarawa Amazons have had a fair season where they had nine wins, one draw and four losses to amass 28 points which was enough to see them qualify to the NWFL Premiership Super Six.
The Lafia Landladies are known for their attacking and flair style of play which have opened up goal scoring opportunities for the team.
The Christopher Danjuma anchored team make use of an evolving 4-3-3 formation which ease free flow of passes and endanger opponents at the slightest opportunity.
Despite being a past winner of the league title, Nasarawa Amazons are inspired to emerge winners in order to taste continental football.
Remo Stars Ladies
The Sky Blue Stars Ladies had a terrific run to earn their first NWFL Premiership Super Six place in their second season in the topflight women’s league.
The Wemimo Mathew tutored team have 30 points from 14 matches, Remo Stars Ladies have nine wins, three loses, and two draws to wrap up an impressive season.
Remo Stars Ladies 4-4-2 formation ensures their players take dominant roles of the midfield, while isolating the wingers, who pop up to inflict stunning goals in the game.
Having the leading highest goal scorer, Olamide Bolaji in their rank is a major inspiration as they plan to win the coveted trophy on home soil.
Naija Ratels
The One Day At A Time Girls possesses the underdog tag in the battle of the Super Six teams. They left it late on the last day of the regular season to qualify for the NWFL Premiership Super Six.
Naija Ratels finished with 23 points from 14 matches (Six wins, five draws and three losses).
The Abuja giants are making a return to the Super Six playoffs following their first experience in 2022.
The compatibility in their 4-3-3 formation will be handy in their pursuit of glory.
