We embark on tree planting to save communities – Rotary club

As it ended its tree planting for 2021, the Rotary Club of Okota under the leadership of Prince Taiwo Akanimodo said it embarked on tree planting across communities for environmental safety.

The exercise commenced on July 29 at Ansarudeen Comprehensive High school, Okota, it was taken to Isolo General hospital, Apata Roundabout, Ejigbo LCDA secretariat and ended up at Ejigbo Police station.

Speaking to ECHONEWS, the President of the Club, Prince Taiwo Akanimodo, said the exercise tagged “Restore and Recover” is meant to combat the effect of global warming and climate change, adding that planting of trees is very important for the environment as trees provide oxygen, cool the atmosphere, help conserve energy, save water and prevent erosion.

He added that planting of trees is a means of sustaining human survival and regeneration.

The Chief planter of the change making year, Gboluwaga Okubadejo, disclosed that the essence of planting trees within the community is to awaken the spirit of responsibility among inhabitants for them to also appreciate individual and organisational contribution towards life regeneration as they can and also contribute towards the growth of the plants.

She appreciated the efforts of Rotary Club of Okota for dwelling into beneficial programmes saying as an Rotaractor, she feels fulfilled for contributing to the community in the little way she possibly can.

Also speaking, the chairman of the tree planting exercise, Rotarian Rasaq AbdulSalam, disclosed that the club had in great efforts partnered with Lagos State Ministry of Agriculture where they got the appropriate trees to be planted within the community.

He stated that in the change making year, the club would continue to impact in the lives of the people as it has always been.

Commending their effort, the new Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Ejigbo Police Division, CSP Gabriel Funsho, on behalf of Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Odumosu, acknowledged the club for working towards the development of Ejigbo.

He expressed his appreciation for being honoured to be part of the tree planting session just few weeks in office while assuring them that his officers would protect the plants for a healthy growth into larger branches.
