Two Remanded For Stealing Diesel

Two suspects have been remanded for allegely stealing diesel worth N420,000 in Lagos.

The accused, Jeremiah Sedan, alongside his accomplice in the act, Williams David, were arraigned following their arrest by the Lagos State Police Command.

The Command stated that the duo conspired to steal 400 litres of diesel belonging to one Fejiro Joel who owns an ice-making factory.

The complainant disclosed that the defendants were told to buy the diesel at the said amount for the use of the day. However, he claimed that after few hours of the generator working, it went off.

Upon investigation by the security guard, it was discovered that the generator was empty. A review of the Closed Circuit Television Footage, CCTV, revealed that Jeremiah conspired with Williams not to but the diesel but switched on the generator set with the left over diesel from the earlier day.

The first accused confessed to the crime and implicated Williams, the company’s driver, as his accomplice. The defendants were arrested and questioned by the Lagos State Police Command, and thereafter arraigned at the Yaba Magistrate’s Court, Yaba.

Prosecutor, Haruna Magaji, informed the court that the alleged offence was committed on May 10, 2024, at Funsho Street, Onike, Lagos.

Magaji stated that the alleged offences contravened Sections 411 and 280(1) of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015. The prosecutor also mentioned that the CCTV footage and witnesses served as evidence that the alleged offences were committed.

Magistate Oyedele Adefope who presided on the matter charged the suspects on two counts of conspiracy and theft.

Magistrate Adefope ordered that the defendants be remanded pending further hearing. He adjourned the case until June 21, 2024.
