School Teacher Faces Prosecution For Flogging Pupil

A female school teacher is facing prosecution for assaulting a four-year-old pupil.

The teacher, Dupe Ehiorobo, was arraigned at Ikeja Magistrates’ Court on Friday on one count of assault.

Police Prosecutor, Inspector John Iberedem, disclosed that Ehiorobo, 45, a teacher at Access Ville School, Ipaja, Lagos, commited the offence on May 13 at the school premises.

Iberedem said she assaulted the minor by flogging him profusely which inflicted severe injuries on his back and laps.

The class teacher said that she flogged the pupil for misbehaving.

Iberedem said the offence contravened section 172 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The Prosecutor stated that Section 172 attracts one-year imprisonment to anyone found guilty of unlawful assault.

The accused pleaded not guilty.

Presiding over the matter, Magistrate Ejiro Kubeinje admitted the defendant to N100,0000 bail with two sureties in like sum.

She also ordered that the sureties should show evidence of tax payment to the state government and that their addresses be verified.

The matter was adjourned till October 10.
