Nollywood actress Ibironke Ojo, popularly known as Ronke Oshodi-Oke, has opened up about her recent health struggles, revealing the significant financial burden of her treatment and the unexpected support she received from people around her.

The actress disclosed that she spent as much as ₦800,000 every month on prescription medications during the period, highlighting the financial pressure that came with managing her condition.

Beyond the cost of treatment, Oshodi-Oke said the experience also brought an unexpected reconciliation with fellow actress Sotayo Gaga, despite the fact that both women had not spoken for several years following a disagreement.

According to the actress, Sotayo reached out after learning about her health condition and sent her ₦150,000 to support her treatment.

“Sotayo and I hadn’t spoken in about five or six years over a minor dispute. We were not on talking terms, but as soon as she heard about my illness, she sent me ₦150,000,” Oshodi-Oke recounted.

She explained that although the disagreement between them had kept them apart, Sotayo’s gesture during such a difficult period left a lasting impression on her.

The actress also expressed gratitude to former transport union leader MC Oluomo and several colleagues in the Nigerian film industry who supported her financially and emotionally during her health crisis.

Reflecting on the experience, Oshodi-Oke also spoke about her spiritual journey, revealing that she joined the Celestial Church of Christ while dealing with her health challenges.

She, however, clarified that her decision to embrace the church does not mean she has lost respect for people who practise other faiths.

For Oshodi-Oke, the difficult period appears to have offered more than a battle with illness. It also reminded her of the importance of compassion, forgiveness and support, particularly when people are facing some of the most challenging moments of their lives.
