Residents of Alimosho Local Government stand to benefit from improved peace, stability and community cooperation as the council has inaugurated its Boundary Committee at the Council Secretariat Conference Hall, Akowonjo, Lagos. The event, held on Thursday 13 November 2025, marks a major step in the council’s efforts to foster harmonious relations, administrative order and sustainable development across the largest local government in Lagos State.
The Chairman, Hon Akinpelu Ibrahim Johnson, described the inauguration as a strategic initiative aimed at ensuring boundaries serve as tools for clarity and cooperation rather than division. “Good fences make good neighbours,” he said, adding that clearly defined boundaries prevent conflicts and encourage collaboration among communities.
Chairman Johnson praised the Lagos State Government under Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo Olu and the Deputy Governor for revitalising boundary administration across the state. He called the reinstatement of local boundary committees a visionary move designed to preserve peace and stability across all local governments in Lagos.
The committee is empowered under the Lagos State Boundary Committee Law of 2009 to resolve inter-community disputes, identify potential conflict areas and promote peaceful solutions through dialogue and diplomacy. Johnson urged members to carry out their responsibilities with fairness, integrity and wisdom, emphasising that their appointments were a trust of responsibility not a title of privilege.
He further charged the Committee Chairman, Hon Francis Adebisi, who also serves as Vice Chairman of the local government, to work closely with traditional rulers, who are royal members of the committee, community development associations and neighbouring councils to ensure effective collaboration. He invoked the Yoruba proverb, “Agba kii wa loja ki ori omo tuntun wo” meaning “When elders are present a child’s head cannot go crooked” to highlight the importance of combining wisdom with administrative diligence.
The inauguration was attended by Dr Idowu Banjoko, the Council Manager, Oba Ahmed Omogoriola Laka 1, the Elegbeda of Egbeda, Oba Nasiru BabaTunde Ogunronbi, the Onishasha of Shasha Kingdom, Oba Akeeb Rafiu Adebowale, the Alaye of Orisunbare, and members of the Alimosho Management Team who are part of the committee.
Concluding the ceremony, Chairman Johnson pledged his administration’s full support, including logistics and training, to ensure the committee’s success. He reminded all present that true peace is not the absence of disagreement but the mastery of understanding. “Together,” he said, “we shall build boundaries that protect not divide, that define not destroy, that clarify not confuse.”
