The Lagos State Government has announced that drivers caught driving in the wrong direction, commonly known as “One-Way”, will now undergo psychiatric evaluation and face legal prosecution.

Oluwaseun Osiyemi, Commissioner for Transportation, revealed this during the launch of the 2024 ministerial briefing at Alausa, Ikeja, Lagos.

Governor Bababjide Sanwo-Olu’s initiatives in the transportation ministry were discussed during the briefing, where Osiyemi emphasized the government’s resolve to tackle the dangerous practice of driving against traffic.

“Henceforth, any offender apprehended will be taken for pyschiatric test as well as prosecuted according to Lagos State Traffic laws.“

Osiyemi raised worries about the rise in fraudulent individuals in the city falsely posing as Ministry of Transportation (MOT) staff. In response, he shared hotlines for reporting these activities to authorities, which could also be used for reporting traffic conditions in the metropolis.

The hotline numbers are 09020009000 and 09020004000. It’s also worth noting that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu oversaw the arrest of some Okada riders caught riding one-way on the Lagos-Badagry Expressway.
