The Chairman of Ejigbo LCDA, Hon. Monsurudeen Bello (Obe) has pledged to support the Customary Court in Ejigbo LCDA to achieve its objectives.

Receiving the president of Ejigbo Customary Court, Mrs. Ololade Williams and her team in his office, he promised to address the challenges posed to its operations by inadequate facilities.

His words: “As an indigenous Chairman, the problems of Ejigbo are well understood by me, but due to money constraint, not all problems can be solved. They have to be done one after the other.”

He explained that the local government could not meet all the demands at the same time due to financial constraint and the fact that there are lots of projects to be embarked on.

He, however, promised that he would start with the maintenance of the court facility.

Williams had, during a visit to the council chairman with her team, demanded that the council should come up with bye-laws for the council area.

Apart from the bye-laws, Williams had also made other demands from the council which include maintenance of court structure and fixing of leakage; provision of  incarceration centre (a place where offenders can be kept temporarily); repair of water system; connection of air conditioner which is available but yet to be connected; provision of toilet facilities and welfare of staff.

Also speaking on the occasion, the Council Manager, Ejigbo Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Princess Iyabode Ogunyemi explained that the local council could not make its own laws peculiar to the council area since LCDAs are not constitutionally recognised by the federal government.

Ogunyemi gave the explanation, saying there was nothing wrong with the existing bye-laws.

She further clarified that the existing bye-laws in use were put together by the Legal Officers from Oshodi-Isolo LG, Isolo and Ejigbo LCDAs.

She urged the court to liase with the legal officer if there arises a case that is peculiar to Ejigbo.

Meanwhile, the court staff members congratulated Obe on his successful tenure and his re-election, presenting him a customised congratulatory card and a gift item to show their appreciation.
