Veteran women’s football advocate in Nigeria, Moses Bako is convinced the Northern Amateur Women Football Association (NAWFA) League have come to stay.

The maiden edition of the NAWFA League saw Plateau United Queens emerged champions as they defeated Joy K Angels 4-3 via penalty shootout in the final.

The NAWFA League saw emerging talents from across Northern Nigeria. Ten teams battled it out over five action-packed days, and the result was a resounding success.

NAWFA Interim Chairman, Moses Nagogo Bako speaking exclusively to ECHONEWS, expressed his heartfelt gratitude and joy after the final, praising the efforts of everyone involved, which includes the stakeholders and the Plateau State Football Association (PFA).

“We’re thrilled to have concluded the tournament without any major incidents, and we’re grateful for the support of the Plateau Football Association (PFA) and individuals who made it possible.

“Special shoutout to Simon Christopher a.k.a Ceemonie and Sarah Nnodim Ikechukwu a former Super Falcons player, for their invaluable contributions.”

Bako is elated about the positive impact of the competition, as top NWFL Premiership clubs have signified interest in signing seven players from the NAWFA League.

He poured accolades on Hajiya Husseina Suleiman Nagogo who supported the course of the competition. He further assured subsequent editions will be mind blowing.

“The impact of the competition is already being felt, with seven players identified by NWFL Premiership clubs.

“A big thanks to a pillar of women’s football in Northern Nigeria, Hajia Husseina Suleiman Nagogo, for her motherly care and support. We’re grateful for her dedication.

“This is just the beginning, with plans underway for the NAWFA Cup taking place in August by God’s grace and a bigger second edition of the NAWFA League. The NAWFA League is here to stay, and we can’t wait to see what the future holds for women’s football in our region.”
