Court arraigns men for alleged murder, possession of firearms
Olarenwaju Kehinde and Abass Rufai have been arraigned at the Ikeja High Court for an alleged killing and unlawful possession and supply of firearms.
The duo alongside Sowemimo Jamiu and Mustafa Yusuf appeared at the courthouse on Tuesday before Justice Adenike Coker for murdering one Mr Peter Odeyemi in Ikorodu area of Lagos State.
On a charge of seven counts before Justice Coker, Prosecution Counsel, Ojukutu Shobande, told the court that Kehinde and Rufai were facing charges of conspiracy to commit murder, murder and unlawful association.
Sobande said that Kehinde and Rufai, on Jan. 31, in Ikorodu area of the state, conspired to kill Odeyemi by firing gunshots on his foot which later caused his death.
She also told the court that Jamiu and Yusuf were arrested on Feb. 1 and found to be members of the Aiye confraternity.
The prosecutor further told the court that Rufai was a major supplier of arms to members of the confraternity, in contravention of Section 9 of the Firearms Act of 2024 as amended.
The defendants, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The prosecutor, thereafter, prayed for a trial date.
The judge adjourned the matter until Feb. 6, 2024 for trial.
