Local farmers to benefit from FG’s empowerment programme

The farmers in Oshodi-Isolo Local Government Area (LGA) are part of the beneficiaries to enjoy the federal government’s empowerment program that kick started recently targeted at grassroots farmers to boost their productivities.
The programme which covers every aspect of farming business ranging from farm tools, farm feeds, animal rearing, vaccines for animals, crops and the like is to help farmers and others along agricultural value chains to boost their business to grow for the better.
Speaking with ECHONEWS about the programme, the CEO of Kenko Farm located in Ejigbo, Akorede Peter, said the programme is to assist the local farmers with adequate funding by the federal government to access loan through individual state governments with 70 per cent loan to be given to the farmers based on the size and standard of the farm.
The Lagos State facilitator of the programme, Mrs. Oladara told our correspondent that the exercise was to run across the federation, urging all farmers in the state to key into it.
She said: “The farmers’ enlightening programme would start today in Akowonjo, Agege and Alimosho Local Government Area and will extend to other local government areas subsequently.”
She noted that the programme is organised to help reduce the challenges farmers are likely to face till the end of the year and for a better start in the year 2020.
She said the assessment of their farms and products by the government would enable them to access the loan which will reveal how much each farmer can access with interest rate to be paid back.
