The remains of Alhaji Lateef Jakande, former Lagos State governor and internationally renowned newspaper manager and columnist will be rested tomorrow at the Ikoyi cemetery, family sources say.

Famously and popularly known as LKJ, the welfarist politician who introduced free education to primary and secondary education in Lagos State and opened up its rural areas to real estate development breathed his last this morning.

As a politician, LKJ grew from the ranks of loyalists of Chief Obafemi Awolowo, premier of Western Nigeria to become his most consistent and pragmatic successor in welfarist governance earning himself the title,” Baba Kekere” even while the sage was alive.
His political tendency,Ase (command) ran the most formidable machinery in Lagos until it was slashed by new political forces birthed by the transition programme of the Babangida junta.

On the international circuit where he once served as the president of the Internatonal Press Institute and managing director of Tribune newspapers, LKJ was considered a leader of the press in the world.

President, Jakande Progressive Movement , Alhaji Dimeji Gbadamosi thanked God for rewarding Jakande with good health and long life.
