Leaders urge residents to plant more trees

Oshodi-lsolo LGA observed the annual tree planting exercise which also marked the 10th anniversary of the program in Lagos state recently.
The theme of this year’s exercise – Think Green, Plant Tree and Live Green- was disseminated during the exercise held at the council Secretariat.
The exercise, has over the years, maintained a tradition of marking the event with a theme to promote advocacy.
The themes of the planting exercise started way back 2014 which showcased the theme as “Green is Peace,in 2015-Life is better with Trees,in 2016-Lend a Hand to Save Trees.
The benefits of trees to humanity cannot be over emphasized as trees sustain the environment and give healthy living to the people in various ways.
Trees clean the air by intercepting airborne particles, reducing heat,and absorbing such pollutants as carbon monoxide,sulfur dioxide and nitrogen dioxide.
Environmental scientists believe that mature leafy tree produces as much oxygen in a season as 10 people inhale in a year.Trees also make effective sound barriers that can abate major noise from freeways and airports.

Olawale, tree planting is the cheapest and easiest way to preserve mother earth and combat the ravaging effect of climate change.
Within the period of ten years,over 6.8 million tress have been planted state wide.
Determined to sustain the tempo of greener Lagos, Governor Ambode has directed that parks and Gardens units be resuscitated in all the council areas to complement the effort of the Agency.
On this note,Ambode urged the private developers in the state to support the campaign of tree planting,desist from massive deforestation in the name of site clearance for housing and infrastructural development.Hence, trees paving ways for development project must be done under the supervision and direction of the Lagos state parks and Gardens Agency.
The commissioner for Environment, Dr. Samuel Adejare,represented by Mrs.Omotunde Oyedeji stated that Lagos state remains in the fore front of environmental regeneration through its commitment to proliferation of trees and green areas in the state. She urged lagosians to team up with the government to realize and sustain the goal,particularly the reformed environment sector where people are the direct beneficiary.
Sole administrator of Oshodi -Isolo LGA,Taiwo Adebayo said tree planting which centered on the responsibility of ensuring survival of the trees lies in the hands of the good people of Oshodi and today,the survival of those trees are well pronounced as greater number serves as shield fromdirect ray of sun and environmentsl beautification.
Head of administration HOA Mrs.B.M Olarenwaju gave the vote of thanks by appreciating God for the day and emphasising that trees are living things.
