A member of the Lagos State House of Assembly (LAHA), representing Badagry Constituency I, Hon. Solomon Saanu Bonu, has tabled the grudge of his constituents about multiple checkpoints along the Lagos-Badagry Expressway before the House.
According to him, the commuters on the route have continued to lament as he sought the intervention of the House on the matter.
Bonu, a lecturer cum politician, called on the House and other relevant authorities to checkmate the presence and excesses of different security personnel, especially operatives mounting roadblocks on the Lagos-Badagry Expressway from Agbara to Seme Border.
The Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa has led the renewed call for the establishment of State police, saying the approval would assist in stemming the spate of insecurity in the country.
While adding his quota on the floor of the House, the newly inaugurated member, Bonu, added his voice and called on relevant authorities to checkmate the excesses of the security personnel.
Bonu stated that the uncoordinated operations of these law enforcement officers usually discourage some tourists from visiting the State. This, according to him, will affect the economic activities of not only Badagry but the State as a whole.
He implored the leadership of the Nigeria Police Force to put measures in place to regain public confidence in the ability of the police to ensure adequate security of all citizens without trampling on the fundamental human rights of Nigerians as enshrined in the Constitution.
Recalling some of the latest happenings in and around Lagos in terms of security, the House noted that there is a need to call on the 10th National Assembly to see it as a matter of urgency to make the issue of State Policing a major factor of development.
