Lagos State University (LASU) has disowned a viral video that sparked fear on campus after a group of content creators staged what appeared to be a bandit invasion as part of a prank.

The video, posted by Datreez Entertainment TV around 9 p.m. on Friday, showed individuals dressed in outfits that gave the impression of armed intruders entering the university premises. The scene reportedly caused anxiety among students who believed a real security breach was taking place.

Reacting on Saturday, the LASU management said it had no prior knowledge of the recording and stressed that the filmmakers never sought or received permission to shoot within the campus. The university described the incident as an act of unauthorised filming and a violation of its security and safety regulations.

The institution criticised the prank, saying it irresponsibly mimicked banditry and other violent threats at a time when the nation is dealing with serious insecurity. LASU noted that such content has the potential to incite panic and disrupt the peaceful atmosphere required for academic activities.

“The university does not support any act or media production that endangers the peace of our community or creates fear among students and staff,” the statement read.

LASU assured the public that it remains committed to protecting the safety of everyone on campus. It also advised members of the university community to stay alert and promptly report any suspicious behaviour to the institution’s security unit.
