The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, LASTMA, has warned truck drivers in the state to desist from parking on roadsides in the metropolis.
The agency stated that such occurrence has led to gridlock and accidents which has led to loss of lives and properties suffered by the state’s residents.
LASTMA General Manager, Olalekan Bakare Oki, gave the warning during a courtesy visit of the management of Viju Industries Nigeria Limited to the agency’s office in Oshodi, Lagos on Thursday.
During the meeting, Bakare-Oki highlighted that the influx of road users is a huge contributing factor to the congestion seen in the state. He said trucks packed by the road side will worsen the situation. He admonished the drivers to adhere to the agency’s warning for the benefit of the state as a whole.
The agency’s MD also urged Industries to inculcate in their drivers road driving ethics and also to urge them to abide by the agency’s warning.
Bakare-Oki also stressed the importance of training drivers to adapt to evolving traffic management technologies, such as the new Traffic Management Solutions devices provided by the government to LASTMA operatives.
In response, the Manager of Human Resources, Viju Industries, Jonathan Ogbone, expressed the company’s commitment to fostering a positive relationship with LASTMA to ensure proper driving in their state.
Ogbone acknowledged LASTMA’s enforcement efforts to impound illegally parked trucks.
