Lagos Taskforce Arrests 52 Suspects For Environmental Pollution

The Taskforce team in Lagos has apprehended 52 persons for violating the state’s environmental laws.

The Chairman of the agency, Adetayo Akerele, stated that the arrests came following a clean up exercise held by the state’s Environmental and Special Offences Environmental Unit in Lekki, Ikoyi areas of the state on Saturday.

Akerele informed that the exercise which began at about 12:35pm also spanned through Falomo Bridge, Eko Hotel and Ligali Ayorinde following a distress call from residents and passersby who noted criminal activities by pick pockets and street urchins especially during late hours.

The agency’s head disclosed that the 52 suspects arrested consist of 51 male and one female. He said that the enforcement team ensured tranquility in the areas and warned against criminal activities in the metropolis.

Akerele affirmed that the agency remains resolute towards ensuring a safer, cleaner environment for residents in the state. He assured decorum and security of lives and properties and added: “We will continue to sustain these enforcement exercises until every part of the city is free from criminal activities.

“Those who choose to engage in acts that threaten the serenity and security of residents should desist immediately or face the full weight of the law.

“All suspects arrested during the operation will be charged to court accordingly.”
