Lagos Govt Arrests Seven Residents Over Illegal Refuse Dumping, Theft

The Lagos State Government has arrested seven residents in the state over offences of indiscriminate refuse dumping and stealing.

The state’s Waste Management Authority, LAWMA, two of the arrestees, Ibraheem Obagade, 25, and Fadayiro Mariam, 40, were nabbed while contravening the stipulated environmental laws by emptying their refuse cans on the median at Egbeda area.

The agency relayed that four other persons: Jerry Okemiri, 34, Idowu Olaiya of age 29, Abdulrazak Isa, 30, and Saheed Onifade, 35, were arrested for indulging in the act on Dopemu bridge.

In another crime related offence, the Lagos State Parks and Gardens Authority, LASPARK, arrested one Victor Joshua for vandalizing median wire mesh barricade.

The Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, informed that all the individuals who were arrested on Wednesday will face court prosecution alongside neccessary sanctions.

Wahab urged the residents in the state to abide by the enacted laws in the metropolis, ensure maximum cleaniness and contribute to more developments in the area.
