Ahead of the Lagos FA Cup which will be held soon as registration have commenced and over 50 clubs have purchased the forms of the competition as they hope to ouster the defending champion, Vandrezzer FC.
The Lagos FA Cup, which is powered by the Lagos State Football Association (LSFA) is one of the oldest cup competition in Nigeria and it’s notable for it non biased to any team.
Speaking to ECHONEWS, the head coach of Ghetto Tigers, Azeez Mustapha stated that the club is still a work in progress but are now strengthened and can pounce on any opponent regardless of the status of the clubs.
“I believe we can go all the way this year. We will be banking on team cohesion to move mountains.
“We fielded a very young side in the FA Cup last year and most of those players we invested that experience in are still with us.
“They are still a work in progress but as far as the FA cup is concerned they are no longer rookies.
“Last year, was our first experience, we held Charlsesann to a goalless first half but lack of experience made it difficult to get the job done.
“Now the team has gained more experience. The boys are still young but they are more battle-ready than they were last year.
“Last year, we made history by becoming the first team to play in the FA Cup in the local government, now we want to be the first to make it past the first round. And go on a fairly tale run.
“The players are gradually coming of age, they no longer play age-grade competitions as we expose them free age tests, to enhance their physicality.
“We have strengthened the team in some key areas. And we are of the conviction that the team in nicely posed to upset many front runners in the competition.
“We are the underdog but I can assure you, any team that dropped the balls against our young team does that at his own peril.”
