Members of the Lagos State House of Assembly have called on residents in the state to boycott the planned protest to be held in coming days.

The lawmakers also recommended the Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, to hold a stakeholders’ meeting to calm the agitations of the residents, thereby, ensuring that the protest exercise is averted.

In a plenary on Thursday, Speaker of the House, Honourable Mudashiru Obasa, mentioned that the nation still feels the devastating effects of the EndSARS protest in 2020. He called on the state government to find ways in curtailing the situation, thus, making sure lives and properties are protected.

Obasa said, “We know that Lagos is still grappling with the impact of the EndSARS protest. But we appeal to the youths to be patient with the government of Asiwaju Bola Tinubu that is making effort to see a better Nigeria that would benefit the citizens.

“There is an urgent need for a meeting with all leaders, including religious, traditional and related organisations in the state for discussion that would help dissuade the youths from engaging in the protest.”

Majority Leader of the House, Honourable Noheem Adams, re-emphasized the utterances of the Speaker. He said, “I want to plead with our people to shelve this protest. President Tinubu had shown that he is ready to listen to the citizens, especially as he has raised the minimum wage from N30,000 to N70,000”.

The legislators in unison urged parents to persuade their wards from joining the protest or allowing themselves to be used to commit crimes.
