It was honour well-deserved as Isolo LCDA emerged the best LCDA at the 2nd Stakeholders Meeting of Environmental Lagos, an online portal dedicated to promoting cleaner and healthier environment in Lagos.
The Stakeholders Meeting which was held on Thursday 3rd May 2018 at Prestige Hotel along NERDC Road, Alausa, Ikeja drew a large crowd of environmentalist, local government offials, MDAs and Lagos residents coming together to highlight, discuss and profer possible solutions to myraids of environmental problems in Lagos.
Environmental Lagos is a WhatsApp platform designed for residents and stakeholders to air and places their concerns and where they could be addressed by state officials with quick response.
The platform covers the length and breadth of the state with issues bordering on environment, health, road and infrastructure, waste management, transportation, security, energy and water.
After a long stretched discussion which involved representatives from Ministry of Works, Environment, Physical Planning and Urban Development, LAWMA, LASPAK, MOT, CDA, Police and Waste Operators, the organisers gave out awards to deserving LGs and LCDAs in appreciation of their efforts at promoting a cleaner and healthier environment especially during the recent waste management crisis that engulfed the state.
Oshodi/Isolo Local Government was adjudged the Best Performing LG while Surulere LG emerged the Best Environment-Friendly in the Local Government award category.
In the LCDA category, Isolo was adjudged the Best LCDA for its proactive measure in waste management between September 2017 and April 2018.
The Supervisor for Environment, Hon. Saheed Abiodun and the Consultant to the Executive Chairman on Media and Publicity, Lanre Olaleye were both on hand to receive the award on behalf of Isolo LCDA.
In his acceptance speech, Olaleye thanked the organisers of the award for appreciating the effort of Isolo LCDA in ensuring a cleaner environment in the council area.
“It is an honour for me to collect this award on behalf of Isolo LCDA and the Executive Chairman, Hon. Shamsudeen Abiodun Olaleye who is working assiduously to promote a clean and healthy environment within and around our council area. For him, the race to excellence has no finishing line. Hence, this award would serve as motivation to do more. At Isolo LCDA, we are extremely delighted to receive this award,” he said.
Other LGs and LCDAs that received awards included Agboyi-Ketu, Shomolu and Coker Aguda.
