An accident involving a diesel tanker has caused an inferno claiming properties at Ijesha area of Lagos.
Passerbys at Cele Roundabout in the area informed that the explosion happened at about 11:51pm on Friday.
The responders stated that a tanker loaded with diesel lost control while descending the bridge in the area, eventually falling sideways and thereafter exploding.
According to the Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, LASEMA, Olufemi Osanyintolu, the loss of control of the tanker was the primary cause of the accident.
“The impact of the explosion was severe, affecting three PSP trucks parked by the roadside and an oncoming Toyota Highlander Jeep,” said Osanyintolu.
“Tragically, an adult male attempting to escape the explosion became stuck in a gutter and suffered severe burns.”
A swift response by the Agency’s response team, LRU Fire unit, Lagos State Fire, and LASAMBUS put up efforts to combat the fire, ensure crowd control and mitigating further damage.
The burnt tanker has been successfully recovered off the road by the Agency, restoring normalcy to the road leading to the safety of the environment.
