The Chairman of Ijede Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Hon. Motunrayo Gbadebo-Alogba, has inaugurated the Igbe Ogunro Model Primary School, a newly constructed block of six classrooms featuring an ICT room, office, and other modern facilities.
The commissioning, held on January 7, 2025, also included the distribution of school uniforms and educational materials to pupils.
The project, conceived and completed under the current administration, aims to enhance access to quality education for the Igbe communities of Ogunro, Kapo, and Oloja. These areas previously faced challenges due to the lack of nearby schools.
Speaking at the event, Hon. Gbadebo-Alogba reiterated her administration’s commitment to development and improving the quality of life for Ijede LCDA residents.
She emphasized that education is a key priority, recognizing its role in lifting families out of poverty and empowering future leaders.
“Our focus remains on development and improving lives.
This school is a testament to our belief in the transformative power of education. It will reduce the distance pupils in Igbe Communities have to travel to access learning,” she said.
The Igbe Ogunro Model Primary School is equipped with well-ventilated classrooms, standard furniture, fans, toilets, a borehole with a reservoir, and a green area, ensuring a conducive learning environment for pupils.
Achievements in Education
Hon. Gbadebo-Alogba highlighted other milestones her administration has achieved in the education sector, including:
- Renovating Ijede Library into a modern facility.
- Distributing annual JAMB forms to indigent students.
- Providing “Back to School” packs to ease the financial burden on parents.
- Supporting teachers and students through bursary awards and merit-based recognitions.
- Promoting sports and indoor games like chess and scrabble to develop critical thinking among students.
- Repairing and constructing fences at Luwasa Secondary School and Anwar-ul-Islam Primary School.
- Awarding N1 million to the best graduating student from Lagos State University.
She commended the Igbe community for their cooperation during the project and urged teachers and students to take ownership of the new facilities to ensure their longevity.
“We must work together to provide our children with the education they deserve and empower them to become the leaders and change-makers of tomorrow,” she said.
