The councillor representing Apena Ward, Isolo Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Hon. Remy Shittu Remy, has hit back at his critics, saying he won’t be distracted by their comments.
Remy, who doubles as the council leader and the deputy chairman of Lagos State Councillors Forum, made this assertion in response to criticisms from a councillorship aspirant from his ward, Hon. Isiaq Oladimeji Shonubi (IOS), who had, in a previous report by ECHONEWS, called out Remy for failing to deliver on his campaign promises.
Shonubi, who is aspiring to unseat Remy as the councillor of the community under the platform of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) said the incumbent councillor has failed to deliver on his campaign promises which includes qualitative representation and facilitation of infrastructural and human capital developments into the community.
He said he has to put himself forward to occupy the position to be able to restore the hope of the people in the community and get the jobs done.
Reacting to the criticism, Remy said Shonubi was being economical with the truth and only wanted to score cheap points.
He emphasised that since he was sworn in, he has exemplified the qualitative representation and progressive governance he campaigned about.
He explained that beyond his way as a councillor, he has been able to influence numerous developmental projects into the council area.
His words: “The fact is known to progressives and mindful residents of our community. Since I got elected and sworn in as the councillor and leader of the House, I have hit the ground running to raise the bar of representation at the local level here. I have been doing my best in that regard. I have bridged the obvious gap between the government and the people as well as between basic service providers in the community and the residents. I have organised and facilitated numerous developmental projects into the community and put our LCDA on the international scene for reasons we can all be proud of.
“Some of these projects are well reported by national and community media. On the occasion of my third year in office, I gave an account of my 3-year activities, so far, via my social media platforms and an unprecedented virtual town hall meeting that was observed by a significant number of residents in the community. I am aware that all these need to be sustained and worked on and that’s why I said I’m working till the last day and will not give in to any form of distraction or criticism from mindless critics.”
Remy, however, advised aspirants against false accusation and the use of propaganda as political or campaign strategies, stressing that such will not make the community a better place
