Epe Tennis Club To Train 200 Players

In a bid to nurture tennis talent and promote the sport within the community, the Epe Tennis Club successfully organized a tennis clinic at the Epe Recreation Center. The initiative aimed at imparting the fundamentals of classical tennis, especially to young residents.

The clinic spearheaded by the CEO of OG 29 Sports World, Comrade Gafar Fowosere, garnered support from notable sponsors such as Mr. Fowosere Bosun, Marie’s Touch, Harcom Sport, Kakalistic Media, Alex Hassan, and Mr. Oduwole Muyiwa, among others.

Mr. Gafar outlined the vision behind the exercise, emphasizing the club’s ambitious goal to train over 200 children and adults in classical tennis by 2030. Beyond skill development, the initiative seeks to raise awareness of tennis games in Epe, introduce children to tennis basics, unearth budding talents, and foster parental interest in the sport.

Despite the laudable objectives, Mr. Gafar acknowledged challenges, citing the dilapidated state of the tennis court and the low turnout of children. He proposed solutions, suggesting the integration of tennis programs into the education system, continuous training, and regular tennis competitions for both adults and children in Epe.

Looking ahead to 2024, Epe Tennis Club plans to organize a tennis competition for secondary school students, serving as a platform for emerging tennis stars who have undergone rigorous training.

Participants in the clinic reflected on the club’s history, marred by internal conflicts, and called for unity to propel the growth of tennis in the town. They urged the Lagos State Sports Commission to urgently address the facility’s sorry state, ensuring functional and accessible facilities for tennis enthusiasts.

The collaborative effort between organizers showcases the commitment of young individuals to grassroots sports and talent development, underscoring the importance of collective efforts for the future of sports in Epe.
