Ejigbo LCDA has promised to increase security in and around schools across the council area to safeguard the pupils.

Speaking to ECHONEWS, the Supervisor for Education, Mr. Ganiyu Bello, disclosed the efforts being made by the government towards the security development, informing that his department has been putting some strategies on security in place within the community.

Bello disclosed that part of the strategies to strengthen the security level within school premises is to control the activities of hoodlums within the school environment during the day and night.

He said reports have consistently been made at public primary schools at both Ile Iwe bus stop and Oke Afa, Ejigbo respectively.

“We’ve had countless reports on how hoodlums usually come to threaten government staffs and even mislead innocent children in the school environment.

“We therefore seek the assistance of the police to patrol these areas at night while the LNSC officers do the job during the day. We are presently planning on a new strategy which we can use to completely curb similar cases but we make sure we use these two forces as first aid within the community.”

He appealed to the residents to report any suspicious movement within the areas on time to save the lives of people and especially the pupils.

An architect, who is currently constructing a new school building within the school premises at Ile Iwe bus stop, Engr. Quazim Ayodele, disclosed that a suspected thief, Laide, who was recently apprehended by the police, was caught after he had stolen construction planks and school chairs which he usually sold to innocent users.

He explained: “Laide and his gang even went to the extent of threatening the gate security officer for questioning their presence in the classroom at night. To me, the cause of this continuous threat is because the school premises is situated in between a market and motor park which are the areas you can easily find hoodlums.

“They did not only steal our planks, they also stole government’s owned chairs and other valuables after forcefully damaging the door to gain entrance into the classrooms.”
