Driver Dies, Three Injured in Lone Auto Crash on Lagos-Ibadan Expressway

The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has confirmed a fatal lone accident involving a Toyota Sienna (KTU 666 JP) at Conoil, inward Secretariat, along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
In a statement issued by LASTMA’s Director of Public Affairs and Enlightenment, Adebayo Taofiq, the accident, which occurred earlier today, claimed the life of the driver while leaving three passengers—two males and one female—critically injured.
Emergency responders from the Lagos State Ambulance Services (LASAMBUS) swiftly arrived at the scene, administering first aid to the injured before transferring them to the Lagos State Accident & Emergency Centre at Toll Gate for urgent medical care.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the driver, who lost control of the vehicle while speeding, was under the influence of alcohol.
During the rescue operation, LASTMA officials recovered ₦48,200, a mobile phone, and 15 sachets of alcoholic gininside the vehicle.
Officers of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) later moved the deceased’s body to a morgue in Yaba, while LASTMA operatives towed the damaged vehicle to their yard to prevent further traffic disruption.
Expressing condolences to the bereaved family, LASTMA General Manager, Mr. Olalekan Bakare-Oki, wished the injured victims a speedy recovery.
He also issued a stern warning to motorists, urging them to avoid alcohol consumption while driving, stressing that reckless and impaired driving remains a major threat to road safety.
