Driver Arraigned For Stealing Mini Bus Worth N2.5m

A man identified as Muyiwa Edun has been arrainged before the Ikeja Magistrates’ Court for an alleged theft of a Minibus valued at N2.5m.

The suspect was apprehended by the Lagos state police command and arrainged in court on Friday after being charged with conspiracy and stealing.

According to the prosecutor, SP Kehinde Ajayi, the defendant of age 40 stole the Suzuki bus sometime in September 2023 at No.10 Ositelu St, Agege, Lagos

Ajayi told the court that the defendant obtained the minibus on hire purchase from the complainant, Olushola Kokomo, on an agreement to pay the money back in instalments.

The prosecutor also said that that Edun fraudulently converted the sum of N1,152,000, ammased from the transport business for his use without the owner’s consent.

Ajayi said that following the theft of the sum, the defendant also disappeared with the bus, and all efforts to get it back from him proved futile.

According to the prosecutor, the offences contravene sections 287 and 412 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The chief magistrate, Ejiro Kubeinje, granted the defendant bail of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum.

The Magistate said one of the sureties must be a blood relative, and both should provide evidence of tax payment and verification.

The case was adjourned till April 30.
