Nigeria International, Desire Oparanozie has officially announced her retirement from professional football at international and club level.
The former Super Falcons captain was part of the team squad to the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup where they exited the tournament in the round of 16.
She penned an emotional retirement message on her official X handle where she appreciated her family, friends and fans for standing by her as she takes a bow from active professional football.
She applauded her past clubs and teammates for been part of her illustrious football career which have spanned over two decades.
“To my fans, family, and friends, thank you for the show of love and support over the years. It’s time to take a bow, as I believe there’s no better time than now. I’m officially announcing my retirement from professional football for both club and country,” she said.
“To every team and coach I have played for, to every mate I’ve played alongside, and to every opponent I have played against, thank you all for being part of this incredible journey. Thank you football, thank you Nigeria.”
Oparanozie scored 25 goals in 35 appearances for the Super Falcons and won the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Premiership twice before moving abroad.
