Community Development Associations (CDAs), the vulnerable and other members of the constituency have continued to commend the Member of the Federal House of Representatives representing Oshodi-Isolo Constituency II, Hon. Ganiyu Johnson, for his persistence in providing palliatives for them to cushion the effect of COVID-19 lockdown.
The lawmaker, on Friday April 24, distributed the second batch of his palliatives at his constituency office in Isolo to the CDAs and individuals who did not benefit from the first batch.
According to them, the gesture is apt as it has continued to save their lives especially during this trying time when many are struggling to cope with the current situation.
Appreciating the lawmaker, one of the beneficiaries of the foods distributed on Friday, Alh Ayinde Abdulkabir, said some of them would have greatly affected but for the timely intervention of the lawmaker, noting that members of the constituency benefitted so much from the first phase of the palliative distribution.
Also speaking, another beneficiary, Esther Soyemi, a petty trader in the constituency disclosed that with the lockdown, things became very difficult for them but the benevolence of the lawmaker helped most of them to remain alive.
Meanwhile, speaking on his palliative programme, Johnson, while distributing another packs of foodstuffs to the beneficiaries, maintained that government would provide more interventions to support citizens and cushion the effect of lockdown, stressing that the people must also reciprocate by cooperating with government to win the fight against the pandemic.
The lawmaker stated that residents must understand that the disease as a global pandemic had no cure yet, pointing out that physical and social distancing must be maintained.
The former commissioner for Works and Infrastructure in Lagos State, while addressing the constituents on Friday, through Anne Kinnoshi, constituency Liaison Officer, begged the constituents to see the fight as a collective responsibility, stressing that government would not achieve any positive result if people continued to flout the sit at home order.
“The sit at home order is very vital in curbing community spread. This disease is not only common with the elites as some people erroneously believe. The common man on the street, the market men and women, artisans, divers and so many other people can be vulnerable, and what it means is that if people fail to maintain physical and social distancing, it would be very difficult to contain the spread.
“Government may not be able to provide enough economic stimulus, we should all make sacrifices to remain alive. Apart from government, private individuals, Non-Government Organisations (NGOs) have been extending palliatives to people. If you have not yet got, please be patient. This is the second phase of our distribution and we would continue to reach out to our people, but the most important thing that we want from you is your cooperation,” he said.
He told them to note that the disease had no cure yet and as such, they should try as much as possible to stay safe by washing their hands regularly with soap, maintain physical and social distancing, stressing that by so doing, the battle would soon be won against the virus.
