Court remands six persons for pirating Toyin Abraham’s movie.

The police operatives at the Force Criminal Investigation Department (ForceCID), Ikoyi Lagos, have arrested six persons for allegedly pirating a film produced by Nollywood thespian, Toyin Abraham.
The actress accused the suspects of plagiarizing her movie ‘Malaika’.
On Tuesday at the Igbosere Magistrate’s Court, Lagos, where the suspects : Kehinde Oseni, Adekunle Segun, Adebiyi Sodiq, Oseni Akano, Agboola Motunrayo and Adebiyi Suliat were arraigned, the Prosecutor, Morufu Animashaun, said that the act contravenes sections 411, 972, 415 and 87 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015, and punishable under the saw laws.
Animashaun told the the Presiding Magistate, Eniola Ogunkanmi that the defendants, charged with conspiracy, attempts to pervert justice and intellectual property theft committed the alleged illegal acts in January at Apapa area of Lagos.
The defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Following their not guilty plea, Animashaun urged the court to remand them in the Correctional Center till the determination of the charge.
Reacting, counsel to the suspects, Ganiyu Oyarevuegbe, demanded bail for his clients making an oral application in the most liberal terms.
Ruling on their applications, Magistate Ogunkanmi admitted the defendants to bail in the sum of N5million each with two responsible sureties in like sum. He further ordered that one of the sureties must be a civil servant but not from the Ministry of Education and the other must be a relation to the defendants.
In addition, the Magistrate also ordered that the sureties must have two year tax payments.
Ogunkanmi adjourned the matter till February 23. He also pronounced the defendants be taken to the NCoS’ custody pending the perfection of their bail.
