The residents of major communities in Oshodi-Isolo Local Government Area have agitating for public water as they depend on commercial system of buying from private owners.

They appealed to the government to come to their aid by facilitating public water in their various communities so as to ease their stress of searching for water.

On the average, a resident spent about N200 on water for daily use while expending another cost on potable water majorly sachet water.

ECHONEWS gathered that there are few public water sources in Oshodi community as there are only four functioning boreholes constructed by politicians while less than 10 per cent residents have access to Lagos state water supply.

Some of the residents who complained to ECHONEWS said apart from spending more on water, they were afraid of water born diseases that could be contacted from various sources through which they got the water especially from the water vendors.

Mrs. Blessing Ezeji said: “I buy few buckets of water daily and compliment it with well water in our compound to save cost.”

Mrs. Latifat Lawal said: “We don’t have well in our compound and the Lagos state water supply has been ceased for months now. I buy N200 buckets of water daily because I have children and I wash often.”

A private borehole operator at Aduke Thomas junction, Mallam Adamu Taihiru said a bucket and or 20 litres keg of water was sold at the rate of N10 while bigger bucket was sold at N15, adding that a motorcyclist could also get water with N100 to wash his bike.
