Former Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. Kehinde Bamigbetan and Ejigbo LCDA’s incumbent chairman, Hon. Monsuru Bello Obe, have praised Ejigbo Police Divisional Officer, CSP Olabisi Okuwobi for reducing crime and maintaining peace and order.
Both eulogised Okuwobi during the commissioning of the refurbished and newly constructed office complex at the Divisional Headquarters last week.
The complex was refurbished and some new offices were built by the Chief Executive Officer of Grooming International Centre, Dr. Godwin Nwabunka.
Commending the DPO, Bamigbetan said: “I think after Adeola and Dankoli, we have not had any other DPO as active as she is. She has proved to us that gender is not a barrier, gender can be an advantage in policing. She is a mother, she is a sister and a friend of the community. She meets everybody and everybody is happy with her. On this note, I want to say we are happy that you are making progress, the community is proud of you. We shall continue to support the Nigeria Police Force to make our community crime-free.”
The local council chairman, Bello, who donated additional two Toyota Siena Buses to the division, said he did so to boost its operations and provide adequate security.
The DPO, while appreciating the community for the support, said the job would not have been done as expected without the community support.
According to her, she has worked harder with her team to reduce the rate of crimes in Ejigbo, saying gender has not hindered her rather it gave an edge to do what many male counterparts might not have been able to do.
She said she came to the Division as Divisional Crime Officer (DCO) with the rank of Superintendent of Police (SP) about two years ago but with determination, hard working and grace of God, she was promoted to Chief Superintendent of Police CSP and rose to the position of the DPO in the same station.
Okuwobi, while narrating how she was able to turn the station to a new place by facilitating the rebuilding of the station, said the donors were attracted by her achievements in combating criminals in the community.
“When I came here we had challenges of office space but I was determined to have conducive offices for the police officers and will leave a very good station when I’m done here. Fortunately, one Mr. Paul Adeleke came to my office, we got talking about it and he said he could bring experts to test the soil whether it would be okay for a storey building. He did it for free for us. Later, the CEO of Grooming also came and said he would give us the building which we are commissioning today. He also renovated our existing structure.
“The Kabiyesi, the Ojon of Ejigbo also donated 1,000 blocks but the Grooming CEO insisted that he would single handedly build the structure. We later used the blocks donated by the monarch for the PCRC building. The council chairman was the one who built our fence and all others who supported us. I appreciate them all.”
