The Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Makinde Police Station, Oshodi, CSP Chinedu Chimereze has warned commercial bus drivers against indiscriminate parking to pick and drop passengers on the major roads in Mafoluku Oshodi.
According to him, the commercial drivers’ uncontrolled acts normally hinder free movement of vehicles along the roads, causing unwarranted traffic chaos.
He specifically warned them to be cautious of traffic law at Oja-Oke axis, where the motorists normally cause obstruction to other users of the road in the course of picking and dropping passengers.
He urged the leadership of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) to create a unit that would be controlling motorists in that axis, saying otherwise the police would take over and subject the erring drivers to required punishment as may be determined by the court of law.
He also urged the leadership of the Oja-Oke Market and the Chairman of Oshodi-Isolo Local Government, Hon. Bolaji Muse-Ariyo to carve a parking space at the market where the motors can stop to pick and drop their passengers.
The police boss, who spoke to our correspondent in his office, said the motorists behaved anyhow, disregarding the laws since there is nobody to control them, warning that the police would no longer condone their illegal act causing social nuisance.
The warning came as he personally caught some motorist causing obstruction on the road and disturbing the free vehicular movement along the Mafoluku Oja-Oshodi road.
“I will not tolerate any type of obstruction caused by motorists any longer. The NURTW should have a controlling unit here at Oja-Oke otherwise the police would take over. I have once told the Babaloja to create a parking space there, the motorists cannot just be picking and dropping passenger anyhow.
“There is law and they must abide by the law. I cannot be looking at them making the commuters inconvenient,” he warned.
