It offers grants ranging from US$100,000 to US$150,000 to nonprofit organisations working to accelerate electric mobility adoption in Africa and Southeast Asia.

The fourth round of the funding initiative is designed to support locally established organisations driving the transition towards cleaner transportation through policy advocacy, institutional development, business engagement and community mobilisation.

With a total funding pool of US$1.5 million, the programme expects to support between 10 and 12 organisations implementing projects that advance electric vehicle (EV) adoption and strengthen sustainable transportation policies.

Successful applicants will receive funding for an 18-month project period, providing resources to build local partnerships, influence policy decisions and encourage greater participation in the electric mobility transition.

About the LEAP Fund 2026

The LEAP Fund is an initiative of the Drive Electric Campaign aimed at strengthening the capacity of local organisations to accelerate the adoption of electric vehicles in emerging markets.

The programme recognises the importance of local advocacy groups, civil society organisations and other nonprofit institutions in shaping policies that support cleaner transportation systems.

Although previous experience in electric mobility is not compulsory, applicants must demonstrate a commitment to advancing the electric vehicle transition. Organisations with backgrounds in renewable energy, environmental protection, sustainable transportation and related policy areas are also encouraged to apply.

Available Funding

Under the 2026 funding round, selected organisations will receive grants based on their proposed projects and funding requirements.

The funding package includes:

  • Grant amount: US$100,000–US$150,000 per organisation.
  • Total funding available: US$1.5 million.
  • Expected beneficiaries: 10–12 nonprofit organisations.
  • Project duration: 18 months.
  • Funding type: Non-repayable grants.

Funding Tracks

The LEAP Fund 2026 will support projects under three major funding tracks.

1. Institutional Readiness and Policy Design

This track supports organisations working to strengthen the technical and institutional foundations required for effective electric mobility policies.

Eligible activities may include research, technical assistance, training, regulatory capacity development and policy recommendations to help governments design and implement appropriate electric vehicle policies.

2. Mobilising Business Voices

This funding category focuses on encouraging businesses and industry stakeholders to become active supporters of the electric mobility transition.

Projects may involve building partnerships among companies, fleet operators, utility providers and industry associations to promote electric vehicle adoption and advocate policies that support the sector’s growth.

3. A People-Powered Transition

This track supports initiatives that encourage communities and different stakeholder groups to participate in the transition to electric mobility.

Organisations can propose activities that engage workers, drivers, young people, health advocates and local communities in policy discussions and advocacy campaigns.

All proposed projects must contribute to at least one of the key electric mobility policy areas outlined in the official call for proposals.

Eligible Countries

The funding opportunity is open to legally registered nonprofit organisations in seven countries across Africa and Southeast Asia.

Eligible African countries are:

  • Nigeria
  • Kenya
  • South Africa
  • Ethiopia

Eligible Southeast Asian countries are:

  • Thailand
  • Vietnam
  • Philippines

Organisations registered outside these countries are not eligible for this funding round.

Eligibility Requirements

To qualify for the LEAP Fund 2026, applicants must:

  • Be a legally registered nonprofit or charitable organisation in one of the seven eligible countries.
  • Have the capacity to receive grant funding from a United States-based organisation.
  • Not have previously received funding from the Drive Electric Campaign.
  • Demonstrate how their proposed activities will contribute to electric mobility policy outcomes.

Organisations that have previously received support from other ClimateWorks programmes are still eligible to apply.

Nonprofit organisations working in environmental protection, renewable energy, sustainable transportation, climate policy and related sectors are particularly encouraged to consider the opportunity.

How to Apply

Interested organisations should begin by reviewing the official Request for Proposals (RFP) guidelines to understand the programme’s priorities, eligibility conditions, assessment criteria and application requirements.

Applicants are expected to select one of the three funding tracks, develop a project proposal outlining their proposed activities and expected policy outcomes, prepare a corresponding budget and demonstrate their organisational capacity to implement the project.
